Over the past few years, more than 70 countries have pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions (CO2) by 2050, thus aiming to become carbon neutral. The Paris Agreement of 2015 had set the objective of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius and, if possible, keeping it to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. However, despite concerted worldwide efforts, carbon emissions are still on the rise, making the attainment of the 1.5-degree target increasingly challenging.
