Rome’s saga of hidden treasures continues as Emperor Nero’s lost theatre pops up under the future site of a Four Seasons hotel, steps from the Vatican. The excavations, carried out since 2020, have unearthed a golden age throwback, revealing Nero’s Theatre once mentioned in Pliny the Elder’s writings, along with other intriguing 10th-century artifacts. Alas, after an archaeological encore and a quick museum trip for the movable pieces, the ancient theatre will resume its undercover life beneath future hotel guests.
